With the increasing need for online resources either for work, research, or study; the search for online study materials can be hard. In this article, I will share with you a few places where you can find free online courses.

The only things you need to get enrolled in these courses are an email address, a smartphone or laptop depending on what you are studying, and most importantly an internet connection. So, without wasting time, here is a list of some websites you can find free courses or programs. Click on the header to visit the website.

Coursera

An online platform that offers a variety of courses and programs from different institutions and universities around the world. It has the option of free courses without certificates and the option of getting a certificate by paying a certain amount for a particular course or program. Most of the lessons are instructor videos along with their transcripts mostly in English. Most of the studying is self-paced, you can download in the app for offline viewing, and they have discussion forums for students to interact and ask questions. They have an app for Android and iOS. Their courses range from Computer Science, Data Science, Personal Development, IT and Software, Humanitarian courses, etc.

Udacity

As a nanodegree they removed their Android and iOS apps from the stores in 2019, so all the studying must be done through their website. They have a wide range of courses in Computer Science, Data Science, Programming, Artificial Intelligence etc. The learning is self-paced, with instructor videos and transcripts, and discussion forums. They also have an option to pay an amount that allows you to get support and get certificates at the end of your course.

Udemy

Much like its above counterparts, you can find various courses and programs on this platform, ranging from Marketing, IT and Software, Design, Music, Business, etc. A slight difference from the above platforms is that you choose to either buy a course and stick it in your cart or find free ones. There is no option to access the paid ones without paying first. Getting a certificate depends on whether the person selling the course is giving out one.

Saylor

The platform is like the rest in terms of the variety of courses offered. However, their structure is a bit different. The courses are free and upon completion, you get a free shareable certificate of completion for every course, they also transfer college credits to colleges and universities that have partnered with ACE and NCCRS. The courses are self-paced, with videos, and literary resources. They also have an app for Android and iOS where you can download the course materials for offline viewing. Courses include Art History, Computer Science, Business Law, Financial Accounting, among many others.

Alison

This is yet another platform that also has most of the courses offered on the other platforms. I have seen only free courses on their site. Courses include certificates or diplomas in IT, Language, Sales & Marketing, Management, Health, Business, Personal Development, Engineering & Construction, and Teaching & Academics.

Cisco

Cisco Networking is another addition to this list of online learning platforms that offer free courses in various paths like Programming, IoT Security, Cyber Security, Business, etc. The courses are free, and some of them even have certification options that you pay for.

I have personally used and am still using all the above platforms for my studies. If you want to grow your career, venture into a new career path, or just learn something new without breaking the bank, these platforms will help you accomplish just that! I will be adding to this list as time goes. Good luck and stay safe!
